Family and Household Dynamics

A peek behind the front door...

Children's Ages: No children live in this home, but these working professionals consider their two pups their "fur babies."
About the Family:
  • Dual busy working professionals.
About the Pets:
  • Care will be needed for two fur babies: the family's beloved Border Terriers, who are very much their children.
  • Charlie is a 6-year-old Border Terrier with special medical needs due to epilepsy. He requires medication at scheduled times and around-the-clock supervision, as seizures can occur every couple of weeks—sometimes in clusters. While he does not need a caregiver with specialized medical training, the family will provide clear instructions on a simple 30-second safety protocol to ensure his well-being during an episode. The main concern is making sure he doesn’t hit his head and that he is comforted and monitored closely. If a seizure lasts too long, he may need to be rushed to the emergency vet. Day-to-day, Charlie is a playful, loving dog who enjoys toys, cuddling, and naps. He is very easy to care for, but should not be walked in the heat—no summer walks are necessary.
  • Ellie is a 7-year-old Border Terrier who weighs about 15 pounds. She is calm and spends most of her time lounging around the house. Ellie is not dog-friendly and can be reactive to other dogs, so walks ( not necessary) should be short and away from dog-heavy areas. If needed, she may need to be picked up and carried when other dogs are nearby.
Additional Notes:
  • These dogs mean the world to this couple—they’ve never left them home unattended due to Charlie’s special needs. They are seeking a Personal Assistant and Dog Nanny so they can finally enjoy the occasional break, whether that’s a night out with friends, a workout class, a concert, or a much-needed date night.
  • Finding the right person is key! The family is happy to plan around the candidate’s availability, as long as the schedule is confirmed well in advance. Flexibility is imperative, as they are looking for someone who can assist on evenings and weekends, too.

Key Responsibilities

A day in the life...

Standard Duties:
  • Dog nanny responsibilities include daily pet care, loving attention, walking the dogs, playtime with the dogs, and closely monitoring Charlie due to his special needs.
  • Additional PA/HM weekday duties will include grocery shopping, light cooking and meal prep, running errands (particularly when the client is home), light administrative tasks such as filing and computer-based projects (not required), household organization, calendar management, and general household support as needed.
Travel Requirements:
  • No travel is needed. Although these busy professionals would love to go on a short trip or overnight once they get to know the candidate more.

Desired Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualifications…

  • Family is requiring at least 2 years of pet sitting experience. Dog lover required.
  • A background working with special needs animals or experience as a vet tech would be highly desired.
  • Must be tech-savvy and able to use a computer, detail oriented and organized, and any previous experience with household management or personal assistant work would be lovely.
  • The ideal candidate for this position is organized, nurturing, and highly dependable. They should be flexible and available to assist during evenings and weekends, with a calm and steady presence in emergency situations—especially in caring for Charlie. A genuine love for animals is essential, along with a strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
  • The clients maintain a very clean and tidy home, so this person must be naturally neat, respectful of household routines, and meticulous about putting things back in their proper place. Someone who is proactive, thoughtful, and takes pride in creating a well-run, peaceful home environment will thrive in this role.
