Frequently Asked Questions

“Night nurse” is an outdated term for an experienced nanny who specializes in overnight childcare. Unfortunately, it’s often quite deceptive as the vast majority of “night nurses” have no medical training, and are not LPNs nor RNs. Thus, about a decade ago, the industry term was changed to “night nanny.”

Night nannies who are looking specialize even further can take an intensive corse to learn even more about newborn care, including feeding and diaper techniques, safe sleep practices and soothing techniques, infant developmental milestones and how to support new parents in their postpartum journey. Upon completion, these individuals will be certified as Newborn Care Specialists.

Yes! We have providers who specialize in providing round-the-clock, comprehensive care for families welcoming home a new baby or even multiples. These Newborn Care Specialists (formerly called night nurses) live in the home, with your family, for the first 2-6 months after the birth of your baby/babies. We suggest you schedule care based on your needs and your budget.

Our newborn care providers are available 8-12 hours/night, 2-7 nights per week, and some even provide 24/7 coverage for up to 6 months.

Families typically hire newborn support for their little one(s) for the first 3-6 months of their life – sometimes less, sometimes longer. The number of nights you schedule care is up to you; some families prefer help 2-3 nights per week while others need 5-7 nights a week.

If your baby/babies are not sleeping through the night at the end of your contract with your night nanny or Newborn Care Specialist, you may be able to extend your contract with the same provider or schedule another provider for additional time.

Our three decades of success stems from a multi-faceted approach to candidate recruitment, including our growing Newborn Care service. While we leverage every recruiting resource available to us, a remarkable 60+% of our annual placements consist of repeat providers – on their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th+ placement – and word-of-mouth referrals from other great night nannies, NCS, and infant care experts.

We truly value our strong bond with the NCS community. We host educational seminars, actively participate in NCS conferences, and maintain close ties with agency owners nationwide. These connections have allowed ABC to cultivate a comprehensive, curated candidate network of newborn care providers – the best of the best, and  nothing less.

By fostering trust and delivering unparalleled service, we’ve become the go-to agency for individuals seeking the pinnacle of newborn care staffing expertise.

Yes – ABSOLUTELY! Vetting and identifying great candidates is about so much more than checking a few references and running a background check. Our rigorous applicant screening process, refined over three decades, is designed to identify individuals who have the passion, character, and experience needed to do the job well and weed out the rest. Less than 10% of applicants make the cut.

While it’s advisable to start your search for newborn care earlier rather than later, 3-6+ month lead time is acceptable. Beginning your search early allows us ample time to hand-pick providers specifically for your family, and ensures you have plenty of time to interview potential matches and make a well-informed decision without feeling rushed.

But if you’re short on time, don’t worry! We can help you too. We often have providers who have breaks in their schedules who can assist. Call us and we’re happy to discuss your needs specifically.

Unlike daytime nannies, who are employees of the families they work for, most newborn care providers are considered independent contractors  (1099 vs W2) under the law. They set their own rates, provide their own contracts, and have their own small businesses set up to handle payment professionally.

Each individual’s rate of pay is set based on their area of expertise, experience, certifications, and education. The typically pay ranges we see in this market are:

     – Night nannies: $30 – $40+ per hour
     – Newborn Care Specialists:
$35 – $45+ per hour
     – Postpartum doulas: $40 – $50 per hour
     – Sleep Consultants/Trainers: $45 – $55 per hour
