Family and Household Dynamics

A peek behind the front door...

About the Children:
  • This lovely family has two school-aged children, ages 12 and 10, who both attend school full-time and have busy activity schedules. Their youngest walks to and from school, and family request occasional support with transport to/from for their oldest.
  • While the children are an important part of the household, childcare is only a small portion of this Household Assistant role. The family is looking for someone who is naturally comfortable around and enjoys children, and who is happy to provide occasional support a few times per month, including an occasional date night.
About the Family:
  • This is a busy two-parent household where both parents work and prioritize spending their available time with their children. They are looking for a capable Household Assistant who can take ownership of the many behind-the-scenes tasks that keep their home organized and family life running smoothly.
  • The family maintains a very tidy, organized home and values attention to detail. Everything has a place, and they appreciate someone who will learn their preferences, ask questions when unsure, clean up after themselves and consistently follow through.
  • This same-sex couple is looking for someone who will be a warm, respectful and supportive presence in their family. Both parents may work from home as needed, so the right candidate will also be comfortable working independently if/when parents are in the home.
About the Pets:
  • The family has two friendly dogs, including a 90-pound Bernese Mountain Dog and a 45-pound mixed-breed do. The Household Assistant should like dogs and willing to assist with pet-related coordination/care as needed.
Additional Notes:
  • They are looking for a long-term partner who genuinely wants to do the job well. A good sense of humor, positive energy and the ability to be playful while staying focused will fit well in their home.

Key Responsibilities

A day in the life...

Standard Duties:
  • A trusted housekeeper comes every other Friday and has worked with the family for 15 years. No heavy housekeeping is expected. The Household Assistant will instead focus on maintaining the home between visits, organization, household logistics and the everyday tasks that make life easier for the family.
  • All standard Household Assistant duties are required, including but not limited to online grocery shopping and putting groceries away, meal prep, errands and returns, family laundry and linens, household inventory and restocking, vehicle-related errands, pet care coordination, and travel preparation and packing.
  • The Household Assistant will also help keep the home organized and running smoothly by maintaining closets, the refrigerator and common areas, handling light household tidying, coordinating vendors and services, managing appointments and calendars, completing research and scheduling projects, watering plants as needed, and assisting with seasonal and holiday decor.

Desired Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following qualifications…

  • 2+ year of experience working as Family Assistant, Nanny Manager, Personal Assistant or Household Assistant is required.
  • Experience independently managing household organization, errands, scheduling and other family support responsibilities as part of a previous position highly preferred.
  • College degree is not required. The family is open to candidates with a variety of educational backgrounds and will prioritize relevant experience, professionalism and overall fit.
  • Candidates must be highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to learn and maintain the family’s household systems. They should notice what needs attention, take initiative, follow through consistently and ask questions when something is unclear rather than making assumptions.
  • The ideal candidate will be dependable, proactive and comfortable managing a varied household task list while working around children, pets and parents who may be working from home. The family will especially appreciate someone who is warm, personable and professional, with a good sense of humor and a genuine willingness to lend an extra hand when needed.
